Do the questions first. Then use the laptop.

When the laptop opens, Brain Boost Buddy takes over the screen. Your child picks a subject and topic, answers the questions you set, and unlocks when they pass. You keep the parent PIN to unlock, give another try, or change the settings.

One-time purchase · UK KS2, ages 9–11 · Signed & notarized by Apple on macOS

How it works

Same routine every login

The laptop stays locked until the quiz is done. You choose how many questions and how many tries.

1

It locks at login

Brain Boost Buddy opens fullscreen when the laptop starts. Nothing else works until they finish.

2

They answer your questions

They pick a subject and topic, then work through the quiz. You set how many they need to get right (1–15) and how many tries they get (1–5).

3

It unlocks when they pass

Pass the quiz and the laptop is theirs. Your parent PIN can unlock early, grant another try, or change the settings.

Learning first

Wrong answers get explained

Miss one and the app shows a short mini-lesson on the method, then a new question to try. Not the same question twice.

  • Mini-lessons walk through the method
  • New question after each lesson, not a repeat
  • Different numbers every time they practise

Parent controls

You control it with your PIN

Your child can't change these. You can, from behind your parent PIN.

FAQ

Questions parents ask

Will this stop a determined teenager?

No. A teenager with admin rights can force-quit the app. Brain Boost Buddy works best as a daily habit for primary-age children, not as something you can't get past.

For most kids, answering the questions is quicker than fighting the lock. For tighter limits, use your Mac or PC built-in screen time settings alongside it.

Is it safe to install on my child's laptop?

The macOS app is signed and notarized by Apple. Windows installs like any normal app. No tracking, no account.

How do I stop or remove it later?

Open the gate, tap Parent unlock, enter your PIN, and press Switch off Brain Boost Buddy. It stops locking at login. Delete the app if you like, or turn it back on later. Your licence stays valid.

Before you've finished parent setup, the app doesn't lock anything. You can quit it normally until your PIN is set.

What age is it for?

It's built around the UK Key Stage 2 curriculum for ages 9–11, with three difficulty levels: Year 5, Year 6 and Greater Depth. The Maths topics also cover common 11+ ground, and English follows the UK statutory spelling lists.

What happens if my child gets stuck and can't pass?

Wrong answers trigger a mini-lesson and a fresh question. If they run out of tries, use your parent PIN to grant another go, lower the difficulty, reduce the question count, skip today, or unlock the laptop.

Won't they just memorise the answers?

Questions are generated fresh each time. The numbers and wording change, so there's no answer sheet to learn.
